Double Shell Stitch Lap Blanket - Oranges

Size: 38 inches x 51 inches
Colors: Orange, Burnt Orange
Pattern: Double Shell Stitch
Book: Leisure Arts - Snuggle-Up Baby Afghans - 8 Afghans - Design by Carole Rutter Tippett - Price not indicated - Copyright 2000
Date: May 2003

This lap blanket uses skeins of orange yarn donated by Toni S. at work. The pattern was fast and fun to make. I like the brightness of this blanket! I know it's probably too much for many people, but I'm hoping it'll brighten someone's day.

hi cheryl,

i just started making this beautiful double shell afghan for my little one. i have the pattern from snugle up baby afghans. i am a little confused in the beginning itself about the pattern. i would be happy if you can help me in resolving this.

as per the pattern,
i chained 158 stitches, started the row 1, making shells. i made the the 26 shells, but there are still 2 more chain stitches remaining at the end of the row. what to do with them?
in the pattern, they did not mention anything about how to end up a row.
when i looked up the pattern for row 2, it says chain 3 and then turn. i didn't understand that. can u clarify this to me. may be i am wrong somewhere.

Hi, Praja - After each shell, the instructions say "... (Shell made), skip next 2 chs, sc in next ch". So, after 26 shells, there will still be at least 3 chs left and you'll do a sc in the last one.

If you've already skipped 2 chs and sc in the next one AND there are still 2 chs remaining, then you may have had extra chs in your starting chain or you may have not skipped 2 chs between each shell.

Let me know how you're doing with it.
