We got back Tuesday evening. I was inexplicably exhausted through yesterday. The photos above are:
- View from the lanai of the condo where we stayed in Kihei
- Windsurfers at Hookipa Beach Park (past Paia on road to Hana)
- View from Billy and Rowena's house (those are the neighbor/landlord's goats)
- Sunset from our lanai - taken by Bill
- Sunset from our lanai - taken by Bill
- Honolua Bay (I think!) where Bill spent a day with Billy and friends
Maui is lovely, except for the high winds, sweaty heat, and traffic! Airline travel was not lovely or nice or even OK. I'll leave it at that.
We attended my stepson's wedding, met his wife and members of her family, met his Hawaii friends, saw where they live (renting a small 2-bedroom house on a hillside overlooking the ocean!), and generally just relaxed. And, the Playful Pineapples Wedding Afghan was a big hit with the bride!
I'm glad to be home again with my kitties, crochet projects, garden, and backyard swing...
My impressions of Maui from this trip...
First, the good:
- Clear blue skies
- Clear blue-green ocean waters
- Air conditioning in cars and condos and stores and ... is wonderful
- Great view from our condo's lanai
Now for the bad:
- Hot, sweaty weather
- Very windy (blow-you-down windy in the afternoons!)
- The wind kicked up lots of sand in the water which is bad for snorkeling
- Lots of traffic
- Lots of people
- The island is too small for me
- Expensive - even more so than the Bay Area
- Lots of construction in progress for more housing and hotels
- Although adding lanes to main roadways is in progress, it is not enough to keep up with the number of people and cars
